Discuss tips and tricks for promoting ReverbNation and your music through the MySpace medium… |
You didn’t hear this from me, but a great way to gain fans for reverb through myspace is to insert the fan collector widget in your myspace bulletins. This of course is usually filtered out by myspace so here’s the trick. Insert the code below into your myspace bulletin under whatever else you put in their and start gaining fans like it’s nobodys business. </form>blah blah blah<form> |
eh??? explain a bit more man thats a bit confuffling |
What I think Contortionist meant by the “blah blah blah,” is that blah blah blah = the code you recieve from ReverbNation |
That is only working in my bulletins….anyone know how to make it happen for myspace messages? |
The </form><form> trick DOES work for messages too, but it comes out a little funny. Apparently MySpace strips out all of the DIVs and puts a bunch of periods in instead. What I do to send the Fan Collector in a MySpace message is this:
It works for me! You can also put whatever you want above the form. It defaults to “Join the mailing list” and the name of your band, but you can easily customize it. |

A user today (asking to remain anonymous) told me how they were putting the ReverbNation player widget into MySpace comments that they were leaving on other people’s pages. The user said “Why TELL people about your music and try to get them to come to your myspace page when you can just put the player full of your songs into the comment itself and let them HEAR it? Put in a link to your page too so they can come if they like what they hear. Its actually a lot less intrusive to let them hear some music before having to click away from the page they are on.” Great idea! Use the player as a sort of business card or signature in all of your myspace comments. We thought we’d heard of all the great ways to virally market your music, but putting your music onto other people’s myspace pages might be the best way to tap into enormous traffic. The user told me that the player has a bad line break on the bottom, so it doesn’t look absolutely perfect. We are going to work on a fix for that right away. He/she also said that it looks good inside of bulletins and that these were quite effective as well. Let us know if you have an innovative way to use any of our tools! Just post them right here. |

Everyone, You DO NOT have to use the “trick” stated above to get the player widgets or fan collector to work inside of MySapce bulletins or comments anymore. It has been fixed and you can just copy and paste the code as-is. FYI, Admin |
EVERYONE There is also now a forum entitled “Promoting Your Music In Social Networks.” Inside you will find a thread specifically for MySpace. We encourage you to check it out, and add anything you may know about promoting bands on MySpace or in any of the other networks listed. Thanks! ADMIN |

Hi ya’ll!First let me say how much I am loving being a part of reverbnation!I think this is a wonderful thing you guys have created! Yesterday,I started to paste banner widgets from different bands from my favorites section, and from my fan section permantly up on my myspace page.I instantly e-mailed Neal to tell him of this and make sure that was allright, well, apparatly that is encouraged by reverbnation, used as another promotional tool.So I am writing into this forum to explain how I did it.(it was simple)Just copy the code for the widget, then paste it into the “People I’d like to meet” section on your profile edit place on your myspace and…...poof!!!!!!!!!! All of you may allready be aware this can be done, but I was excited at the possibilitys of this, and wanted to pass it on…............I am still not sure how some stuff works on reverbnation(still foggy on the tunepac thing)and still not sure how the promoter deal works, but I do thank Scotty for whatever that chart represents.(not sure,)I think that is tune pac send outs?Ok,I won’t clog up the forum board any longer, but I will say in closing,I would like to get in more of these forums,to help promote what reverbnation is doing! Thanks, everyone Matt |

RE: MYSPACE SECURITY ALERT I recently entered a test email address on the Fan Collector form on our MySpace site and found that this now fires up the following security alert -
Is there any way to adapt the Fan Collector code to avoid getting this security alert? I reckon it’ll put a lot of fans off using the form so I’ve removed it from our MySpace site for the moment but have kept our opt-in link for our free download offer. Best to all Paul The Rosinators |

Hi Paul Yep, that’s a MySpace thing that actually only occurs in certain browsers and certain versions. It happens for all widgets on MySpace, not only RN widgets, and unfortunatley, there isn’t a way around it right now. We’ve found most people aren’t turned off by it though…. ADMIN |

MATT You said Just copy the code for the widget, then paste it into the “People I’d like to meet” section on your profile edit place on your myspace and……poof!!!!!!!!!! some of us at MySpace have Music sites where we do not have a “Who I’d like to meet” section. Where else can someone place the code? |
Hi Band Administrator Codes can be placed in almost all of your areas of MySpace. Give it a shot on where you would like them to appear and odds are it will! |
How do I get the code for my player?? |
Elecctric 65, to get a widget for your bands’ music, click the Widgets tab on your profile and select the appropriate widget. Once you have done so, under “Step 2—Place the Widget” you will find the code. Simply hit copy and the code will be automatically copied for you and ready to paste. Hope that helps. ADMIN |
