RE: MYSPACE SECURITY ALERT

I recently entered a test email address on the Fan Collector form on our MySpace site and found that this now fires up the following security alert -

Urgent Security Alert Warning: You are submitting information to an outside site. This could be an attempt to steal your username and password. This is not a MySpace login page, please do not enter your MySpace login information (email address or password). Do you wish to continue your form submission? » Learn more about “phishing” & your security>

Is there any way to adapt the Fan Collector code to avoid getting this security alert? I reckon it’ll put a lot of fans off using the form so I’ve removed it from our MySpace site for the moment but have kept our opt-in link for our free download offer.

Topic: Site Related Topics / ReverbNation on mi2n

I was pleased to see the RN press release “Music Community ReverbNation.com To Begin Paying Musicians” on mi2n (Music Industry News Network) today @ http://www.mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=99981

This is such a brilliant idea! This paragraph, in particular > “We are trying to create a new music ecosystem, and we see artists as our business partners,” said Mike Doernberg, CEO. “We know that we will only be as successful as the artists that use our site. This drives everything we do at ReverbNation, and is behind our ‘Artist First’ philosophy. If it doesn’t help the artists, we don’t do it.” > Really great philosophy!

Serena – you may be following this already – but the CD Baby/Snocap saga continues – see http://cdbaby.org/stories/07/02/13/0315715.html – if you read the most recent comments you will see that Derek makes it very clear you can opt out of their digital distribution rights for Snocap, if you prefer. But once they get it up and running you will not have to pay Snocap’s annual $30 charge if you set it up through CD Baby. Personally I am forced to be patient as Snocap does not yet offer their services to UK artists. I am hoping that once the CD Baby/Snocap deal goes through (latest estimate is in 2 weeks time but don’t hold your breath!) that I’ll be able to use the code on ReverbNation. Topic: Site Related Topics / FanReach (including Fan Collector widget)

Thanks for changing the ‘Confirmation Message’ email – it does seem to have made difference – we had 5 more ‘Confirmed’ sign-ups today alone!

However, can you advise what I should do to try and get our list of ‘Pending’, ie still unverified – currently over 40 – to confirm (if they still want to, that is)?

Doing a test by clicking ‘CREATE EMAIL’ and trying to send it to one of my own ‘test’ addresses which I had left ‘Unverified’ I discovered that I wouldn’t be able to use this function as it can only be used to send email to ‘Confirmed’ list members.

Doing another test on my ‘unverified’ address, I sent the Opt-in link (which I found at Step 2 on the ‘Add Contacts’ page) and clicked the link when I received the email.

The link opened a pop-up window which said”

THANKS BUT… You are already on the email list. If you are not getting our messages, take a look in your spam/bulk email folder to see if they are being misclassified.

However, not long after closing this window, I did in fact receive a confirmation email allowing me to click the link and join up.

So, I suppose my question is, is this the only way to follow up on ‘Unverified’ sign-ups to remind them that they must click the link to complete the process? It would be a shame to lose these fans – we need all we can get!!

I’d be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as us.

Since adding the widget to our website and MySpace – with the offer of a free download for anyone who joins – we’ve had a steady stream of signups. Great!

However I am a bit concerned that the number of emails that remain ‘Unverified’ now equal those that are ‘Confirmed’. In other words, it looks like around 50% are not clicking the link to complete the signup process, for some reason.

Doing a test I see that when someone signs up they are sent quite a lengthy automatic response email which includes the following as the opening paragraph:

Thanks for joining the mailing list! Our emails will come from ReverbNation (our fan email service). Make sure the address reverbnation@fanreach.com is in your Address Book (see instructions below) to ensure our emails don’t accidentally land in your junk folder.

all this before the request to click the link to complete the signup process.

If others are experiencing similar low conversion rates it might be that people are just not getting the message that they need to click the link to become a Verified member. If this is what others are experiencing too it might be better to include all the details about amending your address book etc etc in the pop-up that appears once the link has been clicked.

Hope all this is making sense. Whatever, thanks for a really great service! Think ReverbNation is really brilliant.
